Looking at Landscape

The third graders studied landscapes this week.  After learning about foreground, middleground and background, the third graders viewed a series of Impressionist landscapes and dissected the paintings, specifically how the artist Claude Monet rendered space.  The third graders then prepared their painting surfaces by gluing down four layers of tissue paper, which will hopefully help them identify and render these components of a landscape when we go outside next week to sketch.
